More support for families with special needs
“I am a mother of two and my 10-year-old daughter Sarah is non-verbal, non-mobile and tube-fed. While safety nets via schemes and subsidies are a lifeline for us, there are many other ways families with special needs can also be supported.”
Anyone can help
“Many of us parents are so tied up with caring for our high-dependency children, we have little time for our other able-bodied kids. It would be very helpful if we have volunteers who are willing to spend time engaging them with meaningful activities or even helping them with their school work.”
Companies can play a part
“I encourage corporates to reach support groups and ask, how can we help? Other ways the community can assist include offering rides to and from hospitals and special needs schools, as well as better support in respite care services for caregivers who look after their charge 24/7.”
