Forward SG participant Ashari Ali misses a time where neighbours young and old bonded over a friendly game of soccer, and believes sports is the key to bringing back the kampung spirit.

Unite through sports
“I grew up in a kampung and football was something that bonded the neighbourhood. Everyone across ethnicities, ages – and even those who cannot play well – would just kick the ball around in an open field, and build friendships. Bring that spirit back by opening more public spaces for citizens to play sports for free.”
More intergenerational activities
“I participated in the Forward SG Intergenerational Conversations. It was a good initiative that brought everyone together – from Boomers to Millennials and to Gen Zs, to share perspectives and I learnt a lot. I would love to participate more in such activities.”
Say hello to your neighbours
“We should foster stronger bonds by talking more to each other. Don’t judge each other based on appearances. Sometimes all it takes is a “hi” in the lift to make a new friend, and you might even wonder why you didn’t chat with this nice neighbour earlier!”
